THE DAY OF MY BABY SHOWER 10/16/19:

I’m so done with MIL. Near the end of the baby shower that was already 4 hours long, she asked if I wanted to see the new quilt on her bed in her little crappy camper (in her mother’s backyard, thanks to her second divorce) and I nicely told her that I didn’t feel like walking all the way out to the back yard (it’s a good sized yard and there’s an incline in the yard) because my back was killing me and my feet were swollen, instead I asked her if she had a picture of it that she could show me. She said “oh you lazy ass” to me right in front of my 10 year old nephew and then nephew (not knowing any better) says “isn’t walking good for you?” and MIL replied “yeah it’s very good for you.” and looked at me sideways. Then she showed me the picture on her phone and said “here since you want to be a lazy ass and not walk out there.” I went in the bedroom and cried, very soon after, we left and I didn’t tell her bye. Then DH told me I should tell her how I feel so on the way home, so I called her and nicely said "hey, we wanted to thank you again for the baby shower, it was nice and we appreciated it. But I did not appreciate you calling me a lazy ass. Especially on the day of my baby shower." I had DH beside me and her on speaker, because I knew exactly what she was going to say, and she did. She said WITH AN ATTITUDE "okay well you know what? It was a joke.." and I hung up on her and looked as DH and said "see?! I'm done with your mother." 🤷🏼‍♀️ I'm not being ANYONES damn doormat! The problem WASNT HOW I took it, it was that she shouldn't have said it in the first place. At my baby shower of all days! DH was driving, but when we got home, he called her and out her on speaker. He thanked her again for the baby shower, it was nice, and we appreciated it very much. Then DH went on to say “I heard that some things were said”... MIL replied after getting very defensive and STARTED TO CRY “well you know what, it was a joke. I didn’t mean anything by it! I guess I just won’t open my damn mouth anymore!!” DH assures her that need not be the case, just not to say anything rude like that. He told her it was the baby shower of all days, the comment was rude and unnecessary, and she should apologize to me. WHAT SHE SAID TO HIM NEXT MADE MY DAMN JAW DROP AND CONFIRMED WHAT I HAD BEEN TELLING DH FOR YEARS! Which is that she’s mad at me for taking away DH, aka her “baby boy”. She seriously asked him “are you done sticking up for you wife and scolding me?!” OHHHHH BOOOYYYYY! Let me recap - “ARE YOU DONE STICKING UP FOR YOUR WIFE AND SCOLDING ME?!” HAHAHA! DH was as taken aback by that as I was, I never thought I’d hear that come out of her mouth - even though she didn’t know she was on speaker phone! DH replies to her, “no, she is my wife, and that is my job!” MIL then commented that she was busy cleaning up and had to go and she loved him. I just find it hilariously funny that someone who claims to be so “Christianly” and “Godly” could say something like that without batting an eye. Doesn’t it say in the Bible that when a man marries (which he did last August 🤷🏼‍♀️😂) he leaves his parents and goes to his wife? Mmhmmm. She’s working her way to burning all of her bridges with me and not being able to see the grandchild I currently have cooking (our first), due in December.
