Not having children
Okay so let me start out by saying yes, I MIGHT change my mind in the future, but as of now I truly do not see that happening. Ever.
I’m only 20, but I’ve known since I was little that I didn’t want kids.
Now, I’m dating my current boyfriend and have been for years. He doesn’t want kids either. But, of course our families are getting kind of excited since we’re talking about marriage and they’re excited to have grandkids, great-grandkids, etc.
My friends are also excited because “we’d make cute babies”. And my sister is excited because she “can’t wait to be the fun aunt and have our kids grow up together”.
Honestly I am sick of this. I have explained SEVERAL TIMES that the most you’re getting out of me is a couple dogs and maybe a cat. That’s it. (I don’t even want a cat since I’m slightly allergic but my boyfriend does so oh well.) And of course no one understand why. I just have no desire to have kids. I love kids, I do, but 0 desire to have my own. Apparently that isn’t a good enough reason.
But, I learned in a climate class that I took last year that the best way to mitigate climate change is to have a smaller human population. Basically, if you really want to fight climate change, don’t have kids.
And now, when people ask why I don’t want kids, I just tell them that. It’s not the whole reason, but it is part of it, and most people seem pretty content with that answer rather than me just saying I don’t have a desire to be a mom (except when it comes to furbabies).
I just thought I’d share this. My boyfriend loves it because it gets his parents off his back too. So yeah, just in case anyone is looking for an excuse when your family and friends won’t stop being nosey, here you go!
