Transitioning to Nursery?

Question

How quickly did you (or will you) transition your baby from your room to a crib in another room? 
We had planned to try for at least 3-6 months, but our baby somehow keeps squishing his face and head up against the mesh side of the bassinet in our room and twisting himself into odd positions—it looks uncomfortable and potentially dangerous. We are installing our nursery video monitor in the nursery and considering a much more imminent transition if he keeps it up. 
Wondering what you guys are doing for your LO and have done successfully in the past. We are admittedly skeptical about the room-in recommendations for SIDS prevention, even though we follow the other safe sleep protocols pretty religiously.

So our plan was 4-6 months of being in her pack n play out in the living room, my husband and i taking 4 hour “shifts” so we each got solid, uninterrupted sleep. But she had different plans 😂 around 4 weeks we started putting her in her crib once in awhile and 5.5 weeks she was pretty much sleeping in there full time. It was the BEST decision ever 😂 she sleeps so much better, we sleep so much better, and she’s already used to it so no transition time 👏🏻 our house is fairly small so we hear any squeak she makes which makes me feel more comfortable and we got a monitor where i can see her chest moving up and down to make sure she’s breathing. I was worried at first but she slept 7 hours at 6 weeks and the worry went away real quick hahah. Good luck!

We have a major bassinet hater (plus he’s a noisy sleeper), and every night he’d keep us up or we’d think he was up because he was noisy, then found out he was asleep when we picked him up. Long story short, everyone (baby included) was cranky, exhausted, and miserable. 
I put him in the crib for a nap one day only to find out he loved it. The mattress is way more comfortable, so it makes sense to me. We were nervous about having him in there at night, but his room is next to ours, we can hear him well, plus we have a monitor (so the sounds are basically in stereo). I spoke to a relative who is a pediatrician, and he actually told me that it’s completely fine, that some of the SIDS warnings are a little over exaggerated. He was born full term, he’s healthy, there’s nothing in the crib with him, it’s a flat mattress, we are non-smokers, and we can hear him just fine. He also said it’s more dangerous to have everybody be so tired. Our baby was miserable and we were really foggy from sleep deprivation. He suggested that it might be more risky to continue with the bassinet with ya in that condition. Look at it this way- there is medical literature out there that shows that driving while sleep deprived is similarly dangerous (or worse) to driving while intoxicated. I know this as a physician and a shift worker who has to consider the effect of lack of sleep on my performance. It has been studied pretty well in medical residents. 
Anyway, back to our situation. For the first few nights, my husband and I alternated sleeping on the pull-out couch in his room (we live in nyc, gotta make use of space here!), so the other could sleep. Since we moved him over, our baby is sleeping for longer stretches and less cranky, and we don’t feel sick from exhaustion. Ultimately I guess the decision depends on what you’re comfortable with, how far the nursery is from your room, etc. From other posts you’ve made, I think our babies might have been born the same day (10/9), so same age.

We have the same issue! He can roll onto his side so easily in his bassinet but stays on his back in his crib so the crib seems safer even though it's not in our room?

We were going to wait 6 months, but our girl is so long that I’m not thinking she’s gonna fit in her bassinet that long. I’m thinking after 3 months we’ll be transitioning her with the video monitor and I’m sure me sleeping in her recliner for the first week. 😂😂

I’m like you. My LO is 6 weeks old and always rolls onto her side and gets her head/face close to the solid cushion part of the bassinet. (Not the mesh) I have tried turning the bassinet so maybe she would roll into the mesh but nope. She seems to like something about the cushion. I’m ALWAYS checking to see if she’s breathing and constantly moving her into the middle of the bassinet. One restless/nervous momma here.

With my first 3 kiddos we tried to transition them around 6 weeks or when they were going 4+ hours between night time  feeds. With this little guy we will probably cosleep for a long time due to breathing issues and needing to respond quickly.
