ICSI or Natural, Reason?!

Question

We have unexplained infertility, both of us are fine (as in sperm is fine, no blocked tubes etc)
We chose to go with the natural path when the egg and sperm are together in the dish. We felt it was less invasive.
Just wondering what you all have decided and why?

Hubby and I are the same- unexplained and perfect tests.  Our doc told us we know the sperm and egg are meeting and they just aren’t getting together on their own.  She said ICSI has a higher fertilization rate then sticking an egg in a test tube and just hoping a sperm penetrates the egg by chance. Clearly that was already not working for us in utero.  After trying so long and with so many tests and treatments, we decided we wanted the absolute highest chances of success possible. ICSI increases those chances.

We have male factor fertility so ICSI was the way to go. It’s actually fascinating, it has only been around since the early 90’s, so when my parents were TTC and my dad had MFI there was nothing they could do but adopt to have kids.

We ended up going with conventional IVF even though my husband had poor sperm morphology (0% normal forms). I’m glad we did because we still had a good number of 11 fertilized eggs that made it to day 5 and it allowed us to make embryos in a more natural way. We were aware going into it that there was a risk we might have to do it again, so we were prepared for that possibility.

We were unexplained also, and our Dr didn’t think we needed ICSI, so of course we went with what he advised, we didn’t know any different. Had 29 eggs retrieved, all mature so we thought for sure we would have at least a few embryos! Let me just say, there was nothing more devastating to get a phone call the next morning after all that work saying all failed to fertilize. Embryologist didn’t know why, just said these things happen sometimes and for some reason eggs and sperm weren’t communicating, and that sometimes the first cycle is a trial. She tried ICSI that morning, but I looked up statistics on doing ICSI so late- and it isn’t good at all. I still remember the feeling, and waiting, it was truly horrible. BUT- I have my beautiful, healthy, perfect baby girl and I wouldn’t have her if it weren’t for ICSI! ❤️ She was the only one that made it to freeze..:) You just never know, everyone’s situation is unique, and boy did I learn how fast things can change. Everything during my cycle was perfect up to that point.

We did natural/traditional IVF. I have PCOS & endo, no male factor. My RE said the given there was no male factor he would recommend traditional IVF vs ICSI as a more 'natural selection' process to allow the 'best' sperm to fertilize the eggs. My fertilisation rate was 15 of 20 eggs which I think is average. Good luck!
