What’s wrong with being grandma??

I’m just learning that my mother in law wants to be called Mama by my baby. 
Luckily my son is only 6 months so hasn’t caught on yet but I’m going to have to shut this down. I’m so not ok with that 🤦🏼‍♀️
You already had your turn as Mama so step back and enjoy being a GRANDMA!

I think that would be confusing to the baby and would probably piss me off. I would set boundaries with her because she is certainly not the mother.

My mom is called GiGi. My fiancé mom has not picked a nickname yet but she already knows I'm not up for games anymore. She knows that I feel uncomfortable with certain things being discussed and I won't stand for it anymore. I love his mom and we have a good relationship, but she tries that she knows that she will get an earful. I'm hella respectful to her and she honestly respects me for the most part.

My husbands grandmother likes to be called Mama. His sisters call her Mama and our niece and nephew know her as Mama but my husband never called her Mama. He thinks it’s weird and calls her Grandma. She started calling herself Mama to my son and I just called her Grandma, my SIL pulled me up on it one day and said she likes being called Mama and I just told her in front of Grandma that I’m called Mumma and that is what he calls me. There hasn’t been an issue since 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sounds like my MIL, saying my baby is her’s & if I was going to give her the hospital paperwork back in September for the baby to be “her’s”. 🙄🙄 - Crazy ass bitches.

Yep, my MIL wanted to be “Momom” WTF… she has other grandkids (my DH sister’s kids) who call her Momom. …I told her I wouldn’t allow that.

My MIL did this with her grandson. She even was breastfeeding him and told her daughter that he was essentially his because she looked after him so much. My SIL shut that down but she still considers him "hers" even though he's a teenager now. 
If my MIL made my baby call her mama, I would lose it. I know it sounds like an overreaction but like you said, she's been a mom and had her moment. This is yours. Part of that is being the only mama your baby has. She can be a grandmother but no... Mama is off limits.

Yeah that's a big no from me. I would straight up tell her no. I am mama. You can choose any variation of grandma you would like, but nothing related to mom. Even give her some suggestions like Nana or something

Mine said she’s gonna have the new baby call her ‘Mimzy’ and a direct quote after announcing her grandma name “But the baby will have trouble saying that to it will sound like Meh-meh”
