Can I eat lunch meats while preg?

Question

I was unaware there was such a thing as you can’t eat a hotdog while pregnant but today I was with distant family (that didn’t know I was pregnant yet) and she was saying oh man I want that hot dog too bad I’m pregnant. Then told me while youre pregnant you can’t eat hot dogs or any lunch meat..? Is that true? If so why? My doctor hasn’t mentioned this unless me and my husband totally ignored her 😂

Its an outdated rule. You can eat hot dogs and lunchmeat, you don't have to heat it up either.

It’s common knowledge that cold cuts carry the risk of listeria. Not only that, they and hot dogs have nitrates. So, they’re just plain not healthy. If I’m going to eat lunch meat it’s going to be adequately heated. Doctors and all the websites still say it. I’m personally not willing to risk it. Even this app states it. I’m good, will have a hoagie the second I’m not pregnant

I only eat hot dogs if I cook them so I know they were sufficiently heated and I get subway to microwave the meat since I don’t like the bread toasted. 
I have eaten deli meat without heating it but only once in a while

Hot dogs are usually ok unless you are not cooking it beforehand. Then it’s dangerous. Lunch meats are a hard no due to listeria. They need to be heated up to eat them, but the nitrates in both are not good for baby either so I would steer clear of them. If you want an occasional sandwich or hot dog then make sure they are heated up really hot before eating.
