What do you think?

So we have a really cool school in our area. The high school is a 5 minute walk from the middle school and the elementary school is behind the middle school, talk about convenience! We just moved here like 7 months ago now and our kiddos love it, but my 14 year old has been moody about it. Our 9 year old and 8 year old have had a better stance in it. We figured so much for our older one and have planned on getting him a macbook (it's a family friends that were buying) for christmas so he can facetime his friends back from our old town. He doesn't have a phone and we plan on giving him one for his 15th birthday, but that's a couple months away and honestly, this kid loses his shoes if they aren't on his feet so we are trying to work on responsibility. The macbook would stay at home unless we're with him and as time progressed, we would see how he took care of it.

Well the times for school to be let out are about 10 minutes apart (high school is first, middle school is second and elementary is last) and the lines are always up the street for high school so I asked my son if he could start walking over to the middle school (which again is right next to the high school) and wait with my youngest until I get there. (I'm usually first in line there if I get there quick enough)

He asked if he could get a phone just in case something goes wrong. I asked him what could go wrong and he said he could be late or get stuck at school for a project and that a phone would eliminate that. I told him that once he shows responsibility we can talk about it, but now I'm thinking about it more and maybe it would be good to get him a phone instead of the macbook...

I'm up in the air about it and his father isn't home yet so I just wanted to see what you ladies thought.
