Has anyone moved out of state away from family with their husband?

My husband is from central Oregon, and I’m from Southern California. His dad lives in SoCal as well, which is how we met. He came down here in high school to live with his dad for a bit and ended up staying and he’s now a cop here and we’ve been married for 5 years, and are expecting our second son in May. We recently went back to OR to visit family and he now really wants to lateral up to a department up there and move. Not because of his family, but because of the way of life there. SoCal is very hustle and bustle for the money and Oregon is very outdoorsy and he loves the lifestyle. I’m so conflicted. We’ve had this fight back and fourth since we met and got serious. He always wanted to move back and I always wanted to stay because I’m extremely close with my family. I’m starting to consider the idea and I’m wondering if anyone else has been through this? I actually love the state of Oregon. It’s beautiful and I love the outdoors and think it’s a wonderful place to raise kids. I’m just really scared to leave my family. Nothing else holds me in CA except them.

I moved to Australia from Maryland last year with my husband, I wish I was as close as you're complaining about. You don't need a passport and thousands of dollars to see your family, and you can drive there. Consider yourself lucky.

Both my husband and I’s family, friends and businesses were in CA. We were raised there our entire lives and it’s all we knew. We made the decision together to move to Florida due to the cost of living, and sacrificed selling our business to start from scratch in a new state and being across country from our family and friends whom we’re very close to. And honestly, it has been the BEST decision I’ve ever made. No regrets and I love the new challenges. You’ll never know what’s out there until you try, and if it ends up not working out, you can always go back.

My husband and I moved from Arkansas to Dallas, TX for a year and a half and it was awesome. I thought of it as an adventure and it was something new and different for us. I had never lived in a big city like Dallas before, I had never lived in an apartment before, I got my first job. I had everything I could want at my fingertips, we had restaurants within walking distance of our place, if we wanted to go to the movies at 11 pm we could. Don't let fear of the unknown keep you from doing something different. Yes it's scary, but who says you won't or can't move back. My husband ended up getting laid off from the job that took us to Dallas and we moved back to Arkansas. We've now been back here almost 11 years, I miss it, but I still have all of those memories.

My husband and I are from northern Cali moved to do cal because of the navy now we live in Nevada .. I think as long as you two are happy it will be good ! New environment! New adventures !

You both need to do what’s best for your family, even if it means moving away from your extended family. My mom is from Korea and moved to the US when she married my dad. I didn’t meet my mothers side of the family until I was 15 years old, meaning my mom went 15 years without seeing her parents, sisters and brother because she was doing what was best for her and my dad (plus my dad was military so he was being stationed back in the US).  I’m also super close with my parents and extended family, but if my husband (or myself) were presented with an opportunity that would benefit our family and be for the better, I’d do it. My parents ended up moving to Colorado for a job opportunity and the rest of us live in Massachusetts. We make it work because it’s family—we may not be 5 minutes from each other anymore but we still make time to talk and visit each other.
