How much would you pay?

How much should i charge to do makeup? I'm wanting to be a makeup artist but I definitely don't want to give a rep of being too highly priced or be a push over haha. I'm not certified, just self taught. Please be honest. Thank you 😊 here is some of my looks I have done. 😊

It depends on where you live/what your competition is like. You’re very good! I’m from the Washington DC area and have paid for hair and makeup for a few weddings and they usually charge about $75 (ballpark) for makeup. Now the caveat is that these people are all certified professionals, so you may find that it is a tough market to compete in without certification. But again, it all depends on what part of the country you’re in!

It looks great, but I’d be wary of charging without a license or certification. Don’t quote me, but I think it’s technically illegal. You should definitely look into getting in a cosmetology program!

Beautiful work!! In the pittsburgh area, I've paid anywhere from 75-100 for makeup for weddings. But they were from certified makeup artists. Maybe charge a bit less, and use your earnings to get certified and start your own business 🤷‍♀️ good luck, hope you succeed!

You could probably make around $100 from doing makeup but since you aren’t certified people may not be willing to pay as much so if work on that first.

I’m 100% self taught. I didn’t go to school to do makeup. I however did go through certifications working for MAC Cosmetics. Everything depends on your skill level and what kind of makeup you have in your kit. 
Working for a makeup brand can help you hone your skills and will help you get a better reputation in your area.  
You can charge whatever you feel your skills are worth. My prices vary depending on what I am doing. Bridal makeup (because it can be very labor intensive) is going to cost more than prom makeup and Halloween makeup is going to vary widely in price depending on what it is and how labor intensive it is. Price for a full face also changes if you want lashes or not. So it really just depends on what you are doing.

I’ve been working as HMUA for several years and it’s THE BEST... As for you needing to be certified in order to get paid (legally) you need to check your state licensing laws. Not all states require certification/license to work as a makeup artist, but some require either an esthetician or cosmetology license in order to charge for those services. 
Also a good way to accurately price yourself is to look up other artists in your area, look at their pricing and then price yourself accordingly to start with and once you have more clients under your belt then you could easily be charging more. Keep in mind your portfolio is everything!
