5 days late, negative pregnancy test

I’m just wondering if anyone else out there has ever been 5 days late but got a negative test back, to later find out they were pregnant it was just too soon? Should I wait and test again in a few days, or accept I’m not pregnant and just put it down to something else? I have no idea how long you should wait for these things as everywhere says something different. I didn’t use my first morning urine either but I assumed at 5 days late it would be fine. So again I assume I’m not pregnant but just wanted to know if this has ever happened to anyone else and then they found out they were?

Side note:

I have never been later than a day late ever. So very abnormal for me.. also, we are not trying for a baby right now, but we wouldn’t be upset if I was pregnant as we are married and financially stable.
