My fiance is a great dad and very active and preseng. But he told me he loves our 5 week old but doesnt feel connected to him yet. Would you be upset?

He explained it by saying he thinks its bc he stresses him out. But that he still loves him.

I think that it's great that he shared that with you. Maybe you can help get a connection going, a special book or some skin to skin for them? Maybe he can rock him to a song that's only for them?

I don't think i felt connected to my son at 5 weeks! Sleep deprivation, recovery, adjusting to our new lives. At that stage, babies don't really "do" much, either. We really started to bond when he started smiling, interacting with the world around him, etc.

I didn't bond with my daughter until she was 2 months old. For my husband it was instant. It's different for everyone.

I think it's great he has told you and you should try and do more bonding things with him maybe? Encourage him to try more skin on skin, have a bath with the baby?

I would be upset, because it’s, of course, not picture perfect. But I wouldn’t hold it against him by any means. There are mothers that grow a baby for 9 months and still don’t feel connected to them, so it’s even more plausible for a father to feel that way. But like the other comment said, work on some bonding between the two. Sometimes it just takes a while. I think it’s great he felt he was able to come to you with this, I hope you do what you can to help!

I didnt feel connected to my first baby for months, it’s hormonal. Dads in general have a harder time bonding with babies but it’s different baby to baby. Our first was very challenging and cried all the time, I loved her and would have died for her but I didn’t feel connected to her like I felt I should. My second baby, I felt bonded to him within a few weeks. He was an easier baby, took to nursing easily, didn’t cry much and slept most the time. Idk if it was temperament based entirely as I also had ppd after the birth of my first baby but I do know every mother and father take different amounts of time to bond with each different baby. During counselling this was reiterated to the group and to me individually often as there is a lot of guilt around the feeling of not bonding to baby but really it just takes time and effort. Just encourage him to participate as much as he can and bonding will come.

No, I would say thats normal. Alot of people love but dont feel connected to their newborns since they dont do much. I was the same.

I would be upset, but not alarmed if that makes sense?  I would hate that he isn’t feeling the thunderbolt of love connecting them yet, but please know this is common for daddies.  Once baby starts locking eyes and smiling with recognition that daddy is one of his ppl, the bond will start to form I’m sure 💜
