How do tests at the doctor’s work?

So, I’ve only ever had sex once (my first time) a week ago, and he used a condom and everything, but I went to the doctor today to get antibiotics for a UTI caused by my kidney stones and had to take a urine test. Even if it isn’t a pregnancy-test specific test, can doctors tell if you’re pregnant? Are they obligated to tell you even if you don’t ask? I know the chances of me being pregnant are very low, but the PA that came in at the end of my appointment scared me a little, and I was worried that she didn’t want to say anything with my guardian there.

It would be too early to get a positive test from a week ago, it generally takes 2+ weeks. If you used protection you probably don’t have anything to worry about. But you can always get a cheap test from Walmart if your period is late, it’s the exact kind they use at a doctors office!

They typically do not run a pregnancy test because of UTI symptoms. If you told them that you recently had sex or suspected you were pregnant they would run one. Also, if they did run a test they would have told you and conveyed the result, they would have just asked if you wanted your guardian in the room to go over results.

It's too early for a pregnancy test to be positive. Lots of times they do a pregnancy test but if they didn't run one then it won't show up on the UTI test
