Car crash
After reading a post on here about a member being asked her nationality by a police officer after she hit another vehicle. I remembered my own situation a few years and curious how you else would have handled it.
It was winter and I slid into the car in front of me. The driver got out took a picture of my license plate and drove off. I followed this driver and called the police. The vehicle's license plate was covered in snow. They tried to lose me and eventually ended up at a Korean grille restaurant by a back door. The driver jumped out of the vehicle and ran into the back door. A woman ran out and jumped into the driver seat.
When the police officer got there I explained I was the one who hit him. But because of their actions I wanted to make sure it was all ok. As we were speaking all of the wait staff came out of the restaurant and were standing there. A man pulled a baby out of the back of the car. The woman who jumped into the car yelled at the man that she had to get back to her job.
No damage was done to their vehicle or they never reported it. A few days later a state trooper called me to testify. Saying the driver used a false ID and did not have a license and the vehicle was in someone else's name. That the individual was here illegally. They were really upset that the officer let the driver get away that night.
I have never heard back and never had to testify in court.
How would you have handled the situation? This was a couple of years ago and with immigration such a hot topic I am curious how that would have went today.
