Cleanliness Question (?TMI-ish?)

So this is probably a dumb question. But I hear women say all the time to not use soap, just water to clean your vagina. I always assumed that meant the inside only. But I just started wondering, does that mean the outside of your vagina too? Thanks in advance

Wash your outside lips with an unscented moisturizing soap like dove (where the hair grows). If you have a sweat problem, you can use a mild bacterial soap there. 
Wash inside your lips, in the folds, under your clitoris hood and around your clitoris with clean water and your fingers. Make sure you remove any buildup of discharge by rubbing it away with your finger.
Your vagina (the hole inside your body) cleans itself. That is partly where discharge comes from - it is your vagina secreting fluid to clean your vagina and push out dirt and germs.
The fluids inside your vagina is acidic to kill any germs entering. This is often why the crotch of cheaper colored panties have bleach marks and why your fluids tastes sour.
Always dry yourself well between your legs when you are wet. You can pat yourself dry there to prevent bacteria from your anus being wiped into your lips. Don’t sit around in sweaty panties after exercising or wet swimming costume bottoms after swimming.
Wear cotton panties that wicks away wetness and dries quickly. Wear loose fitting pants or skirts/dresses as much as possible.
Sleep without panties if it is safe to do so to allow your area to keep dry and airy.
On the toilet, always wipe from the front to the back to prevent bacteria from your anus to be wiped into your vulva.

Some people only use water on the outside as well. Personally, I can’t only use water on the outside, I just don’t feel clean if I don’t, especially being a bigger woman & sometimes sweating more in that area. So, I use whatever body wash I happen to be using for the rest of my body, on the outside/vulva & in between the labia, and I typically don’t have any issues. There’s only a few brands of soap/wash that I found don’t work well with my body.
