Baptism or no?

I don't personally believe in "god" or anything for that matter, but that's for another place- what I'm trying to say is everyone else in my family believes I should baptize my baby because THEY believe and go to church etc, etc, but I want my child to have the choice to do it himself/herself if s/he wants to when they're older, but they don't understand that and my father has personally gotten angry with me saying "just do the f***ing baptism!" Like woah. Idk what to do I don't want to do something because everyone else wants me to.

I'm Catholic and baptizing is a huge part for us BUT I don't believe in parents baptizing their child just for sake of baptizing. The whole point is that you are telling the church and God that you will raise the child as a child of God. If you are not a church going person (or religious) then you shouldn't baptize. If your child grows up and wants to be baptized, then allow them to. I would say don't let your family dictate YOUR family decisions.

I wouldn't. My family want is to do it too once baby is born but we are not doing it. We are atheist so it would all be a lie. Our son can decide when he is old enough. We are having a "welcome to the world" party instead so all our family can still come together to celebrate the new baby but no religious rubbish for us. Don't do it if you don't want too, your family will just have to accept it

This is your child not theirs. How can a child be baptized and not know what's going on and what for. It's the child's decision once he or she gets older and can understand it for themselves. Tell your family this and to back off.

I’m catholic I understand what you’re saying and I respect that I was baptized when I was a baby my dad was the only one into church my mom not really she will just go when someone was getting married or baptized. She never push us to go to church ⛪ she always said why go if god is everywhere me personally didn’t listen to her I will still go every other Sunday with my my dad I never knew how important it was to be baptized, first comunión and confirmation until I was planing my weeding and getting married in the Catholic Church I BLAME my mom because I was just baptized and for me to get married by church they required confirmation and first communion and I didn’t have that so they didn’t want to marry me until I get those 2 things I cried and blame my mom because it was her responsibility not mine is the same thing I think why wait to let your child choose when they r older if they want to be baptized is like also letting them choose if they want to go to school to get an education just saying

Don't do it if you don't feel completely comfortable with it. The baby is yours, not anyone else's.

I just got in an argument with my mother last night about this ! She who is Catholic, wants me to baptize my baby. I have never been baptized and dont want to baptize my child for the same reason, I dont want to force anything onto my child. I want him/her to be able to make the decision based on whatever they believe in, not forced to follow something blindly. I believe in spirituality, not religion and I cant say with 100% certainty that there is a higher power. I believe that you do not need religion to be a better person, that you can still live a good honest life with morals. Same goes for my child, I will raise him/her with good values and to be a good person with morals on their own.

I grew up in a very religious Filipino home and I was baptized as an infant. I personally don't have any beliefs at this moment and my fiancé is the same.

I know that our child and any child for that matter can choose to be baptized when they are older and can recognize the choice that they are making. The church will not shun them or turn them away just because they weren't baptized as a baby, they would most likely welcome them with open arms.

I'm not religious and neither is my family,  but having our daughter Christend means a lot to my MIL so I am happy to do it as long as she knows I'm doing this for their family and not mine. At the end of the day, it's a small ceremony that the baby won't even remember.

What if your baby grows up and wants to follow the church? I don't think there's any harm in a Baptist. At least you can put your own beliefs aside for one day maybe?
