Is re-gifting awful?

I’m talking about nice gifts, like a lovely pink scarf but you just don’t like the color pink, or a kids toy but you already happen to have the same thing...
Not like a gross box of expired chocolate.

i think it depends. if you know that a loved one would absolutely love something you might no longer have interest in or use for, then regifting is perfectly fine. i think it goes into poor etiquette when you can tell the gift was thoughtless or very obviously for someone else (ie regifting personalised gifts). even if the gift itself is in good condition, it really depends on the intention. if you give it just to get rid of space, then it's pretty crummy. but regifting bc you know it's what the recipient would appreciate is different.

It's fine, you just have to use a bit of finesse when doing it. Like, my mom got my daughter a 4 pack of different science experiments. If my daughter hadn't already seen it, I would've busted it open and wrapped them individually so my neighbour's daughter would get one, one for my neice and I'd wrap the other two for my daughter. But I couldn't do it because my child has a ridiculously good memory and I know damn well, she would blow my cover.🤦‍♀️ And keeping track of who gave things to you or who may have seen you receive a product so they would know. I'm fine with receiving someone's castoffs, but not everyone is. If there's any doubt, don't use it.🤷‍♀️

Im 100 percent a regifter. And if you ask about it ill tell you . My grandma got me a pressure cooker for xmas. I was like. . Im not gunna use this . So i gave it to my best friend who had wanted one really bad. My grandma was pissssssed. Like... rethink what you get me? She got me a slow cooker in 2013 that dat in the box until Thanksgiving 2019. .

I don’t think it’s awful, but I sort of feel like the person receiving the gift should know. Maybe not, lol. It just seems odd to me. I give gifts after thinking a lot about what they would like. So if someone gave me a scarf, and I knew my mom would like it, I’d give it to her but I would tell her I received it as a gift but it wasn’t my style.

I love getting used gifts when the intention is good, and I don’t like getting new gifts just to give me something. 
One year my brother got a sweater, and my cousin blurted out “Oh, you gave him my sweater!” Obviously, my aunt and uncle giving an unwanted gift to my brother was in poor taste, especially in front of the original gift’s recipient 🤦🏻‍♀️. 
A few years ago, my mother gave me some beautiful jewelry, but it isn’t her style. A family member gave it to her. I wear it and much appreciate that she gave me something I’d use, and it makes her happy that a gift she got is going to good use. 
It all depends on the gift and intention, but I’d get a rehomed gift with love any day.

As someone with a strict budget for Xmas shopping, if I can tastefully regift something, I will totally jump at that opportunity! Also, if you receive a nice gift that u don’t particularly like, HAND IT OVER, rather than it collect dust in the back of your closet! I won’t be offended if I find out!

I don’t think it’s necessary rude if done carefully. A new item to a new owner that doesn’t know the original source is fine for example. I don’t like to regift items or return things but I will giveaway items I don’t want and let people know how I got them.

Idk I’d rather someone regift a gift I got them to someone who could use it rather than have them have it sit awkwardly in the house somewhere
