Have any of you ran away from home?

I ran away from my home at 18. Its been over a year now and its the best decision I've ever made. My parents were tough, strict, uncaring, abusive. I was stuck on my dads plan for my life, he wouldnt allow me my own choices in religion, schooling, or partner. My mother was practically setting up anarranged  marriage. With a really cute guy I'll be honest but I didn't know him and had no interest and we shared nothing in common. I was stuck under their thumb, it hurt like hell. I'm free now, and slowly making the life I dream of. Theres a lot more to my story but thats not why I made this post.

QUESTION:
Have you ran away from home? Are you happy you have? Whats your story?

**a reminder. Everyones story is different, and no matter how much they tell of it you will never know or fully understand their reason for doing what they did. Please be polite and respectful of others situations. Running away from home does not automatically make someone a selfish jerk.

I was the selfish jerk. I was 15 when I ran away the first time, but was only gone the night. I felt free but bad my dad did everything for me, I just wanted more freedom.  Fast forward 6 months, still 15, and decided I wanted to spend the night at my bfs house. So in the middle of the night I left. Well I got pregnant with my first daughter. I had no idea how to be a parent, hell I couldn't even get a job with out his consent. So I stayed gone for 3 months. I called my dad and told him what was going on, and you know what he said to me? " I'm so glad you're alive ", and started to cry. It literally broke my heart. I never thought about how he could be feeling while I was gone, going to work everyday probably sitting there only thinking about me and what happened to me. Going home every night and just waiting for me to come home, and I didn't. I can never take that back  the pain I caused him just from that small time of selfishness, but I did tell him I was sorry, and I loved him for everything he did for me for the next 10 years before he passed away. The whole moral of this story is please please think twice about what you are doing before you do it. I know violence, and other indescribable things are reasons to leave home, but I hope my story gets through to the little girls that just want more, and they think about what it may do to their families before they make that choice. My dad was all I had my whole life until I had kids, it was just him and I for 15 years. I would've never done that if I knew what it would do.  ( sorry such a long story!)

Well I'm 22 and about 6 months ago I lost my virginity To my boyfriend at the time. He's now my husband. And I wanted to spent the night but my dad said no but I left anyway. I came back 3 days later and he changed the locks. And said they wanted nothing to do with me bc I left them for someone else and the fact that I had sex befor marriage. I'm glad I left. my dad was controlling. I was never allowed out of the house unless to go to work. And would always call me names and talk crap about me to ppl saying that I'm worthless.  Plus they where also horders and blamed that on me. I have tried to talk to my dad but he won't say anything to me.he still talks crap and says that I left him and mom. even though it hurts I can't talk to them. I'm glad I'm out of that house

My parents were very verbally abusive, and occasionally physically abusive. My husband hates that I say this but he literally saved my life. He says it's because I did all the work, and he's undeserving of that honour.

I left at 19. I spent a few weeks setting up a job transfer, and found an apartment under the guise I was visiting a friend half way across the state.

I ran, my mom was out of town so that helped. My father was blindsided and livid, but didn't hold me back. I packed up everything I could into my pickup and drove away, no tears, just a ridiculous smirk on my face. The friend I ended up living with turned out to just be a non traditional hooker and used my kindness and naivety to her financial advantage.

My then boyfriend now and I got in a horrible fight and didn't speak for 3 days. On the 3 rd day he texted me "I love you check your email" He had spent 2 days in tears, and half a day screening out all rings that fit my criteria and sent me their jpeg links. We narrowed it down to two. He proposed and we got married on our 2nd anniversary. I was 19 he was 20. Oma pitched a huge fit and forced my parents to pay for the wedding.

My parents are still mad that I left, and that I make no apologies for the way I left. I remain in contact and attempt to be civil because Oma is 90 and Meema is close to that. On principle I refuse to make their last days miserable. After they go, I'm never speaking to this people who I share genes with again.

I think when your over 18 you can't really run away from home. You just simply moved out. At 18 I didn't agree with my dads rules so I moved out.

I tried leaving when I was 16 to go to my grandma's but I couldn't.  My dad said I needed to stay til I graduated which was 19. And by then I was seeing someone he helped me out but I finally packed up and left while my parents were away my dad was very upset. And cried. But I was sick of the abuse, verbal, physical,  emotional and mental. I wasn't allowed to do things, wear certain clothing etc. And I was tired of being a atm

I never ran away but 1 month b4 I turned 18 I left home and I did tell my parents even thigh they didn't ent me to go but I did. My husband and I have been living together since then. It was a bad situation at home and that's why I left.

My Fiance has that same exact story he ran away from home. And his parents had 3 girls picked for him, but he ran away to be with me and choose his own career instead of what his parents wanted him to be.

Yes, but I was 23. It was a terrible time in my life.  I was using drugs, living out of my car.

I ran away at 17 best decision I ever made. My childhood was filled with verbal, physical, and sexual abuse. I moved in with my boyfriend we got married when I was 19. We had 10 great years before he died. Now I'm married to a wonderful man and don't regret any of my choices I've made.
