Is my dad right to be mad?

I’ve been with my boyfriend for 6 years, we are 21. My boyfriend and his parents smoke cigarettes. My dad used to smoke cigarettes but he quit years ago and he never smoked in the house. Today my dad said I smell like a pack of cigarettes (I was wearing the clothes I wore over to my boyfriends house). My dad was genuinely mad. Is he right to be mad about this?

I'm not sure if he was technically mad about you smelling like cigarettes or that your boyfriend smokes. It could honestly be that it makes it harder for him to resist smoking again himself. Or he doesnt want you to come sit on the furniture smelling like cigarettes because the scent tends to linger.

I personally hate the smell of cigarettes. My husband stopped years ago and I’m so glad. Since your dad stopped, he probably wishes you would too for your health. Won’t be easy since your bf and his parents smoke too but you’re much better off

I would try to be more considerate like make sure don’t smell too bad, and shower when getting home. He is probably super sensitive to the smell.

He might just be upset about it. 
My dad stopped drinking a few years before I turned 21, but I didn’t know why. One day after I had turned 21, he saw some wine in the fridge that I had bought. He sat me down and talked to me about drinking and he told me he had stopped to be a good influence on us (my sisters and I). 
I know that my story doesn’t completely relate to yours, but it could be that your dad stopped smoking for you and his family and now he feels upset that despite those efforts, you could be influenced by someone else. 
I’m not saying this is it, but my experience came to mind and it felt right to share. 
Just talk to him about it.
