Potty training readiness

My son is 2 years old. He always takes his nappy off when he pees or poos. He tells me when he poos by retching, but never tells me when he pees (I only know because he takes his nappy off when he does). Edit: Actually, he just came over to me and pulled his jocks down to show me, then peed. 🥴

He has a speech delay & somewhat of a language delay.

I thought that maybe he might be ready. So today, I’ve been putting him on the toilet for 5 minutes every 10 minutes. Sometimes, he would look at his penis and it looked like he needed to pee, but he wouldn’t.

Once 5 minutes was up, he’d get his undies back on and then pee when he’d go to play. And then he’d go “oh god,” and look at the floor where the pee is.

So, I’m at a loss. Do I keep trying, or wait a bit longer before trying again?

He likes to sit on the toilet, but only because I give him markers to draw on the toilet lid. Otherwise, he’d be off and running.

Note: We saw a speech pathologist, and she says that we’re doing great with him, he doesn’t need her anymore.
