Is a crib necessary ??🤔

Hello! New mom here. Currently setting up my babygirl’s nursery before her arrival. & I’m debating if I should buy a crib. I plan on having her sleep right next to me in her basinet. & I just feel like the crib will just be there for decor instead of having some actual use. But then again I’ve never had a baby so I have no clue if a crib is useful or not lol. 
So my question is, 
How many of you actually put their baby in a crib? And/Or how many months was your baby when you began to put them in their crib ?
How fast do babies grow out of their basinet ?
Do you prefer them sleeping with you or in a separate room ?

I mean...your baby is going to need a crib eventually. So the not being used thing is going to be temporary. My son outgrew his bassinet before he hit 3 months.

As per aap , a crib is the safest place for a baby. Empty crib that is. No bumpers mesh or otherwise. No toys blankets or pillows . Nothing but a fitted sheet.
Bassinets are only ok to sleep in it IF the bassinet itself states it’s ok for baby to sleep in it. Many specifically stated do not let baby sleep in it for naps and night sleep.
As per aap, baby and mom should co sleep( not to be confused with bed sharing ) for the first 6 months . Baby sleeping in the same room as mom but it’s on safe place, is best sleep practice.
Co sleeping reduced the chances of SIDS along with the possibility of asphyxiation and strangulation , as long as baby is on a safe place .
Now.. that said.. what others do is completely unsafe.
Many bed share . Bed sharing is unsafe . Even the most light sleeper person can kill a baby in their sleep. It’s happened on this app several times . Devastated moms warning others about bed sharing .
Safe sleep is in its crib and co sleeping with baby in it’s crib and mom in her bed . 
Look up safe sleep practices before taking advice form strangers on what they did and their kids “ turned out ok”.

We had my daughter in her crib from day 1. Her crib was in our room until 6 months.

My daughter didn’t use her crib for 12 months but we moved her into her own room then and she slept in her crib from then until 20 months when we moved her to her toddler bed. My daughter slept in the bassinet a long while, ours was good until 15lbs and she didn’t hit that until 10 months. Some babies hit 15lbs in 3 months. It just kinda depends.

I would say they’re necessary but if you don’t want to spend so much on a crib you could buy a pack and play & have the baby sleep in there. Just no pillows, blankets or anything in there.

My daughter slept in her crib from 2months-3yr olds.

I had a crib with my first and she rarely slept in it, mostly for naps once in the blue. She slept in a basinet for the longest and slept longer through the night in the basinet then the crib. Then we co slept in my bed for about 2months. She transitioned right into a toddler bed by 1 in her own room and this baby I plan on doing the same

My daughter moved to her crib at 5 months. And just moved out of it at 19 months so yes I'd say a crib is useful lol

I never used a crib. I had one and it was basically a little storage area for random clothes and stuff. I would have probably used it if he didn’t chew on the wood and paint. He was in a bassinet then went to a pack and play that hard a mattress. He was able to stay in there for a long time until he got too tall then I got him a toddler bed.
