Upper stomach and back pain

So I know they say contractions are lower stomach and back cramping but I’m having upper stomach sharp tugging pains and now they are in my back too. I tried eating, drinking water, laying down. I’m suppose to be going to work soon and I’m not sure if I should just stay home and monitor myself incase I have to go in but I hate to miss work as its my last week before maternity leave. They don’t last too long but they keep coming. What could this mean? Anyone else experience this?
