Is combo b.c. pills OK for smokers?

So my obgyn told me today that she wants to put me on the combo pill. Well I smoke cigarettes but I'm not a heavy smoker. She did this cause of my heavy heavy bleeding for about 10 days and some major clots. She wants that under control cause I'm showing signs of low iron. And I have pcos. Idk the name of it cause I won't be starting till tomorrow. Any advice? I never taken the pill just the iud.

If your doctor thinks it's ok I would trust them. You can always look into Mirena iud, it's approved to treat heavy periods. I used to have 8-9 day, and very heavy, periods before my Mirena and now I don't have periods at all

Nicotine and estrogen can cause higher risk of blood clots. So no not safe doctors sdvose against it. Quit nicotine or use a method without estrogen.

Does she know you smoke? Smoking definitely increases the risk of blood clots and stroke while taking birth control. It's a relative risk if what you are trying to correct seems worse than stroke risk🤷🏽‍♀️
