Are you giving the flu shot & Why?

Me and my husband can’t make up our minds. Our son gets his shots on the 8th but is the flu shot even worth it?

In my 28 years of life I have never gotten the flu shot. I have also never gotten the flu. I am a teacher and have been around a lot of germy kids! But now I am a SAHM and we hardly go anywhere. So no, I am not. My husband probably will though because he works around a lot of people! And we are debating in getting it for our LO.

We don’t get it in my house and don’t plan on it for baby either. Honestly I don’t see it as a huge help. The strains that are put into it are based on a guess, and during a really good year, is only up to I believe 40% effective. I do take plenty of measures to make sure I’m not passing anything on to my baby either. I wash my hands frequently, keep a clean home, don’t take baby out to too many public places, no strangers are allowed too close, and everyone who touches her better have clean hands.

I get the flu shot every year usually, I’ve been a nurse for several years. I do not have a strong opinion one way or the other though. I think if you’re going to get the flu, then you’re just going to get it. I ’ve never had a negative reaction from it, so I will most likely continue to get it in hopes that it may help and so does my husband. My LO just got her 6 month shots.  Obviously the Ped recommended it. I debated for a few. I know she could still get the flu, but if it could prevent even in the slightest then it’s worth it to me. I also had not heard of babies having severe reactions from it, otherwise that wouldve played a huge part in my decision. Some people (not just babies) seem to have bad reactions from it, and if she did then we would know and deal with it, luckily she didn’t though.

I get the flu jab as I’m a nurse but I went in to work this year to get it (flu season is Oct-Feb here) Only babies with serious health problems are offered the injection here in the Uk. Then every chid aged 2 to I think secondary school is offered the nasal spray vaccine. I’m a strong believer in immunisations sometimes it’s not about yourself or even your children. It can be the older person, pregnant lady or someone who’s immune system isn’t working for some reason.

I do and my baby will. My mother (baby’s grandma) has a serious autoimmune condition and the flu could easily kill her. It’s easy to spread the flu before you realize how sick you are, and we see her almost every day.
I am an evangelist for the flu shot because it can be so deadly for babies, elderly folks, and anyone like my mom with a health condition (cancer patients, for instance) that compromises their immune response. It protects other people besides you and your kids.

We don’t as adults, but when lo can we plan to. Flu shot doesn’t prevent flu just lessons the symptoms hopefully. I believe in building their immune system but not with the possibility of flu.

My son will be getting his flu shot as his 3yr old sister has a compromised immune system and cannot.

I am because I’m pregnant again. I got the flu shot with my first pregnancy and I’ll do it again. 
I used to not get the shot because I’d have a bad reaction to some ingredients. The flu vaccine during pregnancy is different so it didn’t really effect me.
