Birthing class?

So my hospital has birthing classes along with breastfeeding classes but it's almost $100 to sign up for... I know it's probably smart to go... But some people just can't afford that... Your supposed to go 4wks before your due date, I'm due Dec 7 so that's coming up to go... What I'm wondering is are the classes absolutely necessary??

I took several classes and found them to be helpful. The small group setting is a great way to share information and ask questions. We got got a great hospital tour. There was a fee but we got Medela bottles, a Boppy, snacks and lunch.

My hospital offers the same thung for that price... im thinking about going so that my SO anxiety can drop gives us somethung to bond over

My hospital offered classes for free with breastfeeding class too. I think it was worth the time and travel to go to the classes. Plus, my husband hadn't done all the reading I had so it was great info for him so he can be an awesome labor coach.

I've done.... Early pregnancy, breastfeeding and Child birth classes through Kaiser. I learned the most helpful information from the child birthing class. I felt more confident and felt like it's because I knew what to expect. Early pregnancy and Breastfeeding both had information that was useful, but not enough to be worth the time. If your doctor or hospital offers lactation support or access to a lactation specialist at a decent price that will be helpful. Otherwise books and videos will be more helpful than the class.

My birthing classes didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. I didn't have to pay for them but if I had I'd be a bit pissed 😂

I looked up some videos on you tube. While I do have the money, I'd rather save it for other baby expenses or just in case anything comes up. Plus everyone keeps telling me it'll all go right out the window anyways so I thought of it as a waste of money personally.

Buy a movie on labor and delivery/ newborn care instead!

People told me that "nothing can prepare you for labor" and that they forgot everything in the classes or that they weren't that helpful and don't explain what it's like recovering after birth. Not sure how many of those things are true, but I'm not taking a birthing class. If you feel that it'll help you, and you can afford it, then go ahead!
