peak OPK before period?

Question

Ok so I took a PT 3 days before my period is due and it said negative
Well I decided to take an ovulation year (my last one) for the fun of it at this point since I’m thinking I won’t be pregnant anyway..
Well I used a clear blue digital one and got a solid smiley face.. 
Why?? Is it detecting pregnancy? Is it because AF coming? 
Has this happened to anybody?

Opks are not designed to detect pregnancy. You can get an lh surge before your period starts. Its true that hcg can make opks positive, but that doesnt mean you're pregnant.

Opk can detect pregnancy, but to confirm, you need a hpt. If hpt won't show anything and opk does, you are not pregnant. A lot of women have LH surges more than once in their cycle, and most commonly before period. That's why all opk recommend stop testing after the first peak, because the first peak is considered happening 12-36 hours before ovulation.
