How did any of you choose your god parents? I have 3 people I’m trying to choose from. One is my best friend who I know will be there and I want to choose because I know I can trust her if anything were to happen and that she would have a close bond with my child. The second is my blood sister who lives in Florida and although I know she won’t exactly be around to have a bond I know if anything were to happen she would step up, give my child a great life she’s very stable has a house, great job and 2 kids of her own. The third is my adopted sister, who my whole life has been there for me wants nothing but to help and be involved and also has a great job and I know would step up. All three are great picks for godmom.

Godparents do not necessarily become legal guardians in the event of a parental death. For us, godparents are moral and religious examples we want as models for our son. We chose my cousin, who although she rarely attends organized religious services, she has deeply rooted morals that we agree with. If we were to pass, she wouldn’t be our son’s caregiver though. She lives in a camper with two dogs - she’s a wanderlust type of person. We love her for it, but our son would go to other family who have a house with a foundation and other kids.

Look up the definition of “God parents.” If you want your child to go to someone specific in the event of your death, you need to state so in a living will. Otherwise, your child will go to whoever the courts decide. An attorney can help you with that.

If you want a legal guardian in case the worst happens. You need to go to a lawyer/possibly legal zoom and draw up paper work on what will happen if you and your husband die. 
Godparents aren't held to that legally. "Godparents" are a Catholic thing (possibly other religions too) to ensure there are more people to guide your child's spiritual life.

I don’t think jobs or incomes should really play a role in choosing the godparents. The godparents are responsible for your child’s spiritual upbringing, to be good role models and help foster their relationship with God. So, you should pick the person that you think can best fulfill those roles and you trust will be involved in your child’s life.

We chose my husbands sister and husband. They are amazing and they have 3 kids of their own that my son is really close to

I didn't give my children God parents. Honestly it's kinda pointless in my opinion. They are not legally going to ever get custody of my children most likely so it doesn't really matter to me.

I choose base on who i know is going to take great care of my son. Also who able to take care of him financially.
