When did you allow visitors after csection?

My husband is upset because I don't want my in laws to visit the day I have my csection (last pregnancy they failed to respect my wishes and showed up with a whole gang of people). I want my daughter to be the first one to meet the baby, then my mom (she's the one watching our toddler while we're in the hospital). Is it unreasonable to want to be showered and able to walk around before letting my husband's family in?

I only allowed my daughter and SO in on the first after my cesarean, and while I was still a bit drugged lol. Everyone else was allowed on day three. IMO day two is the worst.

No, that is not unreasonable at all. I had a room full of people waiting for me when i got out of recovery after both of my c-sections. I was a mess. I was so drugged up and tired. It was nice to have everyone there but i barely remember any of it. All i remember is that it seemed to be so loud in our room. I don't blame you for not wanting a ton of people there right away. All you have to do is tell your nurses that they are not allowed to visit until the next day. They will deal with anyone that decides to show up. It would be extremely rude of your in laws to not respect your wishes.

I don't think there is anything wrong with wanting to be able to have a chance to put yourself back together before people flood in. I feel the same way. I've told my husband I don't want anyone there right after so we can have time alone together as a new family and he understands. I'm 19 weeks now so as it gets closer to the day I plan on letting everyone know what we expect as far as visits after baby is born. It's not to be mean but we need that time.

It was just me and my family who was in the labor room with me ( emergency c section) and people started visiting the next morning.

I had my partner with me and my mum and sister were visiting which was when I had to go down as it was an emergency one so they waited until we got back in the ward. A few hours after my dad came with my other sister and took everyone home except my partner. My partners family visited the next day and our grandparents a few days after we were home. I didn't mind my family being there straight away because I'm really close with them but it was nice to have the night to enjoy bonding before more visitors. Second time around I want my son to be the first to meet his brother or sister (10 weeks at the moment) before anyone else unless they was there by chance again

My parents where there right away and my in laws where there later that night. I think when I have my second child I'm going to limit all visitors until I  am atleast up and moving. I was doing skin to skin and my mother in law was upset she couldn't hold her, now mind you, I went through 4 days of induction before I ended up having my section and not once did she come down or even ask if we needed anything. And it was only 3 hours after I gave birth, I couldn't even move around yet. So that's my plan next time around.

I could have written this. With my last I was fresh out of recovery and got wheeled into a room full of people. They all pressured me to give up the baby so they could hold her, and I wasn't able to breastfeed or do skin on skin. This time, that's important to me. I requested no one there the first day besides my parent in-laws, one will be in the or with me and the other will bring my kids, and my husband. My family is pissed. I think a lot of it is because I'll be having twins. But it's about what you want. I don't want to have regrets like I did with my last. Things will go the way I want them to go this time. You do you!!

This happened to me with my first child. Minutes after having my catheter removed, my husbands parents, aunts, and uncles show up with freaking tea and pastries and the had a party in my room.  My mom finally lost it after I hid in the bathroom crying out of pain and exhaustion and she kicked everybody out.

This time I made it clear from the beginning that no one is allowed at the hospital besides parents, my brother-in-law and sister-in-law, and of course my older child.  Instead we had everyone over when we got home be settled in. People were able to come, see the baby, and socialize. If I needed to get away to feed or cry (baby blues) I went to my bedroom.  The ability to get away was wonderful and having everyone over made it easier for my husband to deal with keeping everyone out at the hospital.

If you fear your family won't respect your wishes, ask the nurses to stand guard. Our hospital also had signs for the door saying the mom is recovering and not accepting visitors. The nurses send people away all the time!  It's unfortunate but like others have posted, people just don't get that you've had major surgery and are dealing with sleep deprivation on top of it.

Completely understandable!! It took some convincing with my husband, but I just stuck to my guns. We allowed my mom, brother & his parents in day 1, other family was allowed the next couple days but they had to call & get "approval" before just showing up. You just had major surgery & you have a brand new baby, it is YOUR time, not anyone else's!!
