My husband and mother-in-law (MIL) go into a gas station to get cash back from a atm. I stay in the car . There was a line for the atm so they had to wait a while. There were mostly people that looked “mexican”. My husband decides to leave back to the car and my MIL tells him “don’t leave me around these mexicans , they’ll rob me” . My husband gets angry and tells her “that’s racist, why would you say that knowing my wife is mexican.” She then just laughed .My husband comes back to the car and tells me what happened. Few minutes later my MIL comes back to the car and acts like nothing happened.

It honestly bothers me what she said. She never says any racist jokes around me.
