Foundation shade

Question

i am having trouble finding the right foundation shade for my skin. my tone changes a lot over the course of the year. i go from medium to tan over the summer and i usually need to find a new shade again. what is the best way to find the perfect foundation shade for your skin?

Your having trouble cause your looking for your surface tone( the color you see when you look in the mirror) You need to be matching your undertone, once you know your undertone you’ll be able to find the correct match.  
In natural light look at your veins 
Blue/purple veins: cool undertone 
Green veins: warm undertone 
Can’t tell: neutral undertone. 
Another way would be when you wear jewelry does sliver look better on you? If so you have a cool undertone. If gold looks better you have a warm undertone if both look good you are neutral undertoned.

Most makeup stores have a shade matching tool! Have them shade match you when you’re at your normal color (like not super tan from summer) and buy that foundation. Then when you are more tan, add a bit of red or orange to your foundation. When you’re paler, ad a bit of blue. This changes the undertone and helps match your skin! I have tried it using red lipstick and I’ve seen several Instagram makeup gurus do it. 
If you can’t afford higher end stuff from Sephora or Ulta, there are many charts on Pinterest that can give shade comparisons between high end and drug store brands. 
Bronzer is also really good at helping blend a too-pale foundation to make it look darker. 
If none of this helps, just make sure to blend down your neck and on your ears 😄

Go to Sephora and get matched. Cover FX also makes drops for your foundation to make it lighter or darker depending on what you need, so you can always get your shade, and then get the drops when your skintone changes and then just mix the drops on the back of your hand with some foundation.
