Do you think some of us are born with maternal instinct

I always thought that your maternal instinct wouldn’t kick in until you’ve had your own kids. I’m out of practice with kids, haven’t been around any in a long time. However I caught my nephews head and butt an inch off the ground in 0.2 seconds and cradled him towards me so that he would hit my body and not the ground if that makes sense. He’s fine. he was climbing out of his high chair and i was coming down the stairs and my sister was turned around and I saw him and reacted. She turned around the moment it happened. She said my maternal instincts are kicking in or something like that. I don’t think that’s maternal I think that’s was just “don’t let the small human fall and bust their head” instinct 🤷‍♀️ like a social thing, it’s human nature to protect the small ones. or maybe that’s the same thing lmfao no idea

If you’re wondering this is the first time I’ve seen her since she was pregnant. That’s why I say I haven’t been around kids.
