I really suck with titles, but I need help

Good day, ladies, gents and everyone in between.

So, my current partner isn’t that big of a celebratory person. You can tell him “Merry Christmas,” “Happy New Year,” “Happy birthday,” etc. and all you’ll get in response is, “Yeah.” He has also told me he won’t say these back because there’s no point if he’s only saying so out of obligation. (He doesn’t really even say “I love you” to ANYONE, family included.) That’s not to say I don’t get it, I do, but... it makes me a little sad.

My birthday has always been awful. Nothing ever good comes of it and it happens to fall pretty damn close to Valentines Day (which makes it oh so much more unbearable). Anyways, point being, I want him to take me out for my birthday, but I run into the problem of if he’s taking me out because he wants to, or if he’s just doing it because I want him to...

Last year, I didn’t even get as much of a happy birthday from him, which was really hard because it was my first birthday away from my family. I had explained this to him. So, I don’t really know if there’s a point in talking to him about anything this year.

Am I just overreacting?
