Discussion: Do you think judgement plays even a small psychological roll in how society functions or that it can be a necessary evil? Or do you think it's avoidable?

Answer

Judging people is unfortunately a natural biological response. Especially in times of potential danger, our mind makes snap decisions about a person for self preservation. In other situations, it's all to do with figuring out anything that could happen in the moment based on the fact that you know nothing else. So our brain is like "it's easier to assume just in case." I think reflecting in the same moment is good, because we know we shouldn't judge. But it really is an evolutionary trait.

People judge and assume. It's a thing. Hopefully we are mature enough to acknowledge this, and correct ourselves and each other respectfully.

I'd say not caring about others. We make thousands of micro judgements about other people all time. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing. We decide weather to smile at someone or avoid eye contact. Whether to give our phone number or decline. It's only a problem when we judge based on things like race or perceived SES.

In life it's a basic instinct to judge people for your safety. You get a vibe on people around you good, bad, or indifferent. It keeps you safe in your day to day in a busy world. There is different types of judging. Understanding why you're judging is also important.

You can judge a person but still care about them. I think not caring is the worse issue. But, judging also causes a lot of crap.
