Do you judge people for ignorance?

If someone is ignorant as in without information (I've heard it used as a way to say someone is dumb which is why I'm clarifying) do you hold it against them?

When you meet people who are obviously ignorant about something are you able to be patient with them and not hold it against them? I personally try my best to be patient, despite not always being able to if the subject is sensitive to me. I do a great job at work with clients but I struggle with it when talking to "normal" people. I have to remind myself that not everyone is educated about things and to be more compassionate (again I dont always succeed but I am trying!)

How do you handle ignorance? Do you stay compassionate and try to educate or do you feel that people should put more effort into learning about subjects on their own?
