No period.. Negative Pregnancy test?

Hey all, my period is late by 8 days, I tested when I was 4 days late and got a negative. I get a little bit of cramping and gas, but no other signs of my period coming? We have been trying to get pregnant for about 5 months now. Any chance we are and it was still just too early to test 4 days ago? I don’t want to get another test if it’s just going to be a negative again.
