Kid pregnant 🤔

So i was watching greys anatomy, season 3 episode 14. They open a free clinic and a kid like 12 comes in with her single parent father, asking about tampons. The father walks away and the girl asked "i had sex last week, can i be pregnant even before my first period?". I was curious if it could actually happen?
