Have you experienced domestic violence?

I've experienced verbal and recently physical abuse from my dad. I'm currently 18 and studying for my final exams. I'm so stressed and hurt and I just want to escape but I have no where to go. I just want to know how others have coped with this

My parents were very psychologically, verbally and occasionally physically abusive. Their favorite tactic was to hug me really close, rub my back and say something nice like "Gosh, you're hair is so such a lovely shade of red and full of ringlets" Immediately let got and push me away then say "but it's too bad you're so stupid, disgusting and fat and you don't match."

I got to the point where I was 110% sure; and they often encouraged the idea, not outright but they agreed, that if I was dead my sister and parents could FINALLY be happy AND have the life they deserved.

My husband HATES that I say that he saved me, he feels he doesn't deserve that honour. He feels that I did all the work and he was just the support.

My advice is to do what I did, make an escape plan, not just how to get out safely but a game plan to stay out and away from your abuser!!!

Find a co-worker, friend, relative, teacher someone who is trust worthy that you can stay with. Leave when your abuser is at work. Pack your basics, all technology, medical records, paperwork and if you can documentation of the abuse!!!

Leave, call who you're staying with and the police when you're safely in your car. And call the police when you've safely gotten to the person with whom you're staying with. File a report, do NOT call your abuser, DO not text them, DO not respond to their attempts at contact. Say only that you've left and you're not coming back.

Good luck, document everything you can, keep in contact with few people in case you need back up and most importantly stay safe!!!

My first son's dad was very mentally abusive. He had me under his thumb so bad I didn't even realize it. My friend came for a visit and opened my eyes. It was bad. I was with him for 8 years, and it took everything I had to get out. He still has that power over me. Luckily, as far as this is concerned, he is a dead beat dad too. So I don't have to see him ever. I feel bad for my son though. :-(
I would suggest you try your hardest to get yourself out of that situation. And call the authorities if he is getting physical. You never know how far he will take it. Please take care of yourself.

I have by family, ex's & honestly some teachers when I was in high school. I would seek help.
