baby making help plz

okay so me and my hubby have been on and off trying to get pregnant. we’ve miscarries before and i also miscarried with an ex lover as well. i can’t afford fancy ovulation test and all because we just got our first apartment and money is a little rough. what are some at home ways to test for ovulation and also, at which point between my monthly cycles should i take pregnancy test? i know my hormones are strongest during my first pee each day but idk if i should test while ovulating or just before or after my period or neither. help?!
