When to potty train

Question

When did you guys know when to start potty training your little one? My boy has lately been telling me when he is wet (diaper still warm so I know he tells me as soon as he is going). He has gone into another room to poop a few times. I don’t think he is ready quite yet, just wondering what other signs to look for?

My son turned 2 in July we started in October, did no pants for a week and he picked up on surprisingly quick, he wasn’t showing any signs of readiness but I’m due with his baby brother in March, was sick stuck at home so I tried it on a whim out of curiosity, I was fully prepare to go back to diapers if it didn’t work. He’s fully potty trained now with no accidents like 99.9% of the time.

We started training my daughter shortly after she turned 2, she was complaining about being wet, seeking out privacy to poop, acting interested about the potty when I was using it, & waking up from naps dry (overnight dryness was more rare), the week before I started training her I found a bunch of kids potty training videos on YouTube (Daniel Tiger & Elmo were our favorites) & we talked about how we were going to say “Bye bye.” to the diapers the next week, my husband & I decided to train for daytime as well as naps & nighttime & just go completely cold turkey on diapers, I used the method from the Oh Crap Potty Training book, she’ll be 3 in a little over a week & is 99% trained (she’s had 1 or 2 accidents in the last 3 months)

Do you guys know if there are diapers to use to help them know when they’re wet. I feel like his pampers baby dry are so effective it’s actually working against us. My guy is 26 months and I feel like we should get it done this spring but he doesn’t seem that interested. He knows when he has to poop but only occasionally seems plugged in on the peeing.

My son wasn't ready until recently. He's 3 and a half. We had introduced the potty but didn't push it. Finally I felt he was ready and I let him pick the last day for diapers. He got to pick out fun underwear and off we went. He's doing so well and I'm so glad we didn't push it until he was really ready. Such an easier process.

My son is almost 3 and still not ready. He says when he’s gone poop and goes into another room. Knows how to use the potty and has before but usually just refuses and asks for diaper. He also doesn’t mind having a dirty diaper on. And doesn’t care about rewards for going. We’re going to try again in April/May after he turns 3. And hopefully before baby #2 gets here.
