FTM. NEWBORN SLEEPING SCHEDULE?!

I’m due very very soon. I was wondering do you have to wake up a newborn every 2-3 hours to eat? Or do I just wait for baby to wake up on her own and then feed?

When we first brought my son home he didnt eat for over 3 hours and when we tried to wake him we realized he was lethargic and wouldn't eat. Ended up back at the hospital with severe jaundice, if we had just gone to sleep and waited for him to wake up I dont know how long it wouldve been before we got help.. I would definitely recommend waking them at the very least every 4 hours in the beginning

The nurse at my prenatal class recommended feeding every 2-3hrs in the first week or two because their tummies are only the size of a large marble so they need a little bit but often.

Unless theres a medical reason and doc tells you to, I wouldn't wake them up to eat. Mine were 5 pounds at birth (38 weekers) and I never woke them up. As long as they're gaining weight they're fine.

It depends. I never woke my son up. He woke up when he was hungry. Unless there’s some sort of concern about weight gain or any other issues, I wouldn’t!

The first few weeks don’t let baby go more than 3 hours without eating. Newborns don’t usually wake to eat, so it’s important to feed on demand at least every 2-3 hours (but more of they’re hungry) and set an alarm if needed. *This is especially important if they’re jaundice. Feed feed feed.* If they’re a few weeks old and sleeping really good you could probably let them go 3.5 hours occasionally, but don’t make a habit out of it. My daughter started sleeping a 4-5 hour stretch at night just after a month old, then wakes every 2-3. She’s two months old and I still try to feed her every 2.5 hours (and NEVER over 3.5) during the day so that she’ll get her calories in during the day and sleep a little longer at night. At this age I would not be comfortable with her sleeping through the night.

Depends on baby. We stopped at a month old and he gained a pound over the next month. A week of waking him and he gained 11oz.

Usually when baby gets past birth weight, you don’t have to wake. Depends on how fast the baby gains the weight back since they loose it on like day 2-3.
