Car seat cover bag for flying?

We will be taking my son on his first flight and we are going to gate check his car seat. I saw a car seat bag on amazon but wasn’t sure if it’s necessary. Anyone who’s traveled with their little ones car seats have suggestions? Also suggestions in general for the flight? Thanks 😊

It it is a must. You should see the number of holes and dirt on the outside of my bag. We use a cheap car seat for travel purposes so it’s not a big loss if it’s damaged. 
As for flight, make sure to have snack and drink for when flight ascends to help with ear pressure.

Absolutely necessary. For one it makes it easier to carry the seat through the airport, but also protects the seat from damage. I would suggest a padded bag but at the very least the cheaper bags protect the seat by keeping everything covered so the car seat straps to get caught on something and damaged. Plus it keeps your seat clean. 
Also, be sure you ask the gate agent if it’s a full flight. If it’s not, they will often move you next to an empty seat and then you can bring your car seat right on the plane for free! That way you know for sure you car seat won’t be damaged, and you have a safe, comfortable place to put your little one during the flight.

You can actual check in your car seat, one less this to carry around .Most airlines don’t charge if you check in baby gear. Definitely buy a car seat protector

yes. I got one for my stroller too. I checked the car seat with my bags and gate checked the stroller. stroller was a life saver at the airport

Didn't need a bag for the car seat but definitely the stroller. The first flight we took it was damaged and now the wheels are all wonky and it's harder to fold and unfold.

I didn’t use one. Flown 4 times with my daughters carseat and no issues
