Child Support- Should I?

So long story short, I was abused by my ex and left him when I was pregnant.

He has never given me any money, clothes, toys etc. Never provided for my son.

My son is now 13 months old and I don’t know if I should take him for child support.

Half of me doesn’t want anything from him. I want to show that I can do this by myself and I don’t need his money blah blah...

But the other half is like “hey I didnt make this baby alone” and think it’s for my son, not me.

Help?! What would you do?
