Starting to wean
My daughter is 10 months old. She has always been EBF. She has never taken a bottle, but drinks water out of a weighted straw cup like a pro. I want to nurse until a year, but at that point I am ready to be done. I would like to slowly cut down on nursing, and then once she is one, offer breastmilk in a cup 1-2 times a day until age 2 (I have a large stash).
She used to nurse every 1.5 hours religiously. I have her down to 4-5 nursing sessions a day (about every 3 hours). She eats 3 meals and sometimes a snack, and drinks 5-7 oz of water a day.
Any tips for continuing this weaning process? I currently pump once a day (before bed). When should I stop pumping? Any comfort measures recommended for engorgement that might occur?
Thanks!
