Breastfeeding tips for FTM ? Welcoming all advice 😃 . Thanks ladies!!

How time consuming it can be, especially in the beginning.  I see posts all the time from ftm worried that they have low supply or that their baby isn’t getting enough because they’ve been nursing for 3 hours straight. That’s actually really normal, especially in the evenings.

Here's what I wish someone told me 
It's SO SO SORE for about 3 weeks, but it does get better as your nips toughen up. 
You will be glad you stuck with it in the end. 
You can put cold compress on after feeds to ease the pain. 
But lanolin cream and put it on as often as possible. 
When you feel like giving up remember you can do it. The pain and frustration is only temporary. If you need support going a feeding group. Other moms are a font of knowledge you will need x

Oh yes, the Haaka! I had such low expectations, but you will be surprised about how much milk you will get 'for free' from that thing. So cheap on ebay. Get one!
My pain lasted about the first two months. It was very bad pain and very difficult. Who knew something so natural could feel so terrible.
Many nights around 3-5am, my husband had to soothe the baby while I psyched myself up to feed at intervals because of the pain. Baby was crying, I was crying. It was not fun. I wanted to do 6 months, so I pushed through. 
I would say that it is true, the more you feed, the easier and less painful it gets.
I was aiming for on-demand, but didnt realise in the early days that on-demand was all day long, almost non stop, or could last for 2 hours at a time.
I got the best advice from a pinterest post though, it said that when baby cries, it is most likely hungry, so always offer milk first. Our stupid antenatal class woman told us baby would feed every 3-4 hours, which is rubbish. It lead me to think there was something wrong if baby fed just 40 mins ago but is crying again. I had a few super stressy days before reading that post and zero afterwards! 
What I really did enjoy about breastfeeding, once I hit my stride, was that you can do it anywhere. No bottles or formula to mess with, so I got out and about ever single day from early on.
I was always being offered a more comfortable seat, or seat in a quieter area, or to have water or coffee brought to me. People were so helpful and accommodating. I hope this is your experience.
I only heard of one issue, a friend brought her baby to a birthday dinner and when there was prosecco for a toast, the male waiter refused to let her have a glass and told her she should not have any because she had a baby! Talk about butting your nose in. She would certainly not have had much and there would be too little for it to reach the breastmilk anyway. So I hope you dont have this and are allowed dominion over your own body by strangers. The least we can ask as women, really.
He is 7 months now and we have totally weaned off daytime feeds and I have to say it feels so great! I have my body back finally.
I am doing nighttime feeds if he wakes because it is easier than going down to make a bottle, plus he is still getting some breastmilk from those feeds each night.
I also have a freezer stash for when I stop totally so that he will still have breastmilk for at least his first year. 
If you wanted to pump, I would recommend considering getting two singles, as the suction on doubles is crap. 
I bought a double but it was a waste of time and money, so instead, I used two Medela swings with the Medela pumping bra, which makes it hands free so you can have a cup of tea or do your nails at the same time. (You will very seldom get a chance to have warm tea or do your nails). 
The Medela Swings are very cheap and in good condition on Ebay.
I wish you luck and the strength to power through and in the end, when you wean, you will feel so great that you were able to do this for your baby. 
(As a sidenote though, if you have to stop and formula feed instead, this is perfectly fine and formula fed babies are just as wonderful and healthy!)

Previous comment said a lot of what I was going to - mainly that it does get better! I remember it being so painful I was dreading it but now it’s so easy and I can just pop her on without thinking twice about it. Very tough initially but glad I stuck with it
