Umbilical Granuloma

My son is 9 weeks old and he has an umbilical granuloma since the stump fell off. It secretes some yellow discharge but it doesn’t smell bad. My pediatrician has used Silver Nitride on it 3 times already and it has not left. She said if by next month it’s still there we may have to discuss surgically removing it. Has anybody else gone through this with their LO? If so, what did you do to help it go away? Or if you went through removal surgery, what can I expect?
