please help :(

i recently hooked up with someone new. we had protected sex a few times, and he ate me out. i was talking to my friend about it, and she told me that i should be worried about herpes. she said if he has herpes and ate me out i could get them. he didn’t have a cold sore or anything when we hooked up but now i’m worried sick. does anyone have any insight or a similar experience? if i do have it how long does it take to show up?
