He never hit me, but he did try to suffocate me with a pillow and held me against the door by my neck. I left. With our daughter

Yes, I’m embarrassed to admit it too, because I was always one to say that I would never tolerate any type of abuse. Eventually, I realized that that wasn’t okay and left. But I did take time to work on myself and grow to love myself. Knowing what I know now and since meeting my now husband I wouldn’t tolerate it again. I will have self respect for myself. I wish you the best of luck in your situation.

It’s hard, not all situations are the same and not all abusers are the same. Some think it’s just one hit and you should leave, but sometimes they work on you to the point where you have absolutely nothing, no connection to the outside world to even save yourself, and then the abuse happens. Sometimes it’s not just one hit, sometimes it’s a 250+ guy holding you down beating on you when you’re only 130 pounds yourself. It’s so easy to say it’s easy to get out and not allow it to ever even happen, but it isn’t. It’s not like we rather a life of abuse, more so we were never given the tools of red flags to catch it beforehand. 
Biggest recommendation, stuff is material it’s going to hurt when you feel so vulnerable but you need to talk to a shelter, most cities have shelters for abused woman, where people will help you get out, they will work on you once you do get out. You’re not alone. You just need to grab whatever strength you still have left and make that leap because we all deserve to be safe. You’re never alone and it’s not your fault, even if it takes you a 100 tries and years and years, YOU deserve to be safe!
