Didn’t receive anything for valentines, should I be upset?

I do feel kinda sad now that I’m thinking about it but I didn’t receive anything for valentines this year.. I love my bf w/ all my heart and I know he does too but he’s going through a touch situation right now that involves his brother. On Valentine’s Day his brother had a terrible anxiety attack & has been hospitalized since. I’ve been supportive and even got my bf something just so he wouldn’t think about it too much.

Yikes. You sound selfish and honestly, pretty shallow. His brother is obviously more important than a dumb “holiday,” and the fact that you’re choosing to focus on not receiving anything while he’s hospitalized says a lot about you.

Instead of being materialistic focus on him and his needs. He’s going through a lot right now. Valentine’s Day is a stupid made up holiday. Just be happy you have him and can be together.

He’s got enough going on in his life right now than worrying about Valentine’s Day. But your feelings are incredibly important too, and it’s important that you still feel appreciated, especially during tough times like this. Maybe casually suggest a belated Valentine’s Day? It’d be a good distraction for him too. Again you may have to do most of the effort as his mind will be elsewhere and he has a lot to deal with at the moment, but as long as he does SOMETHING and you have a bonding time, hopefully you’ll both be happy. 
But regardless it’s important to communicate how you feel! Just be sensitive as he’s going through a lot, but do not ignore it and put your feelings aside.
