Gestational Diabetes

So I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and today is day 1 of monitoring my sugar with a glucose meter. All of the info I received has me feeling a bit overwhelmed. For those who have gestational diabetes what are you eating? How often are you eating? 3 meals along with 3 snacks just sounds like so much food.

I had the same with my son a year ago! I was so overwhelmed with it at first and felt the same, too much food. I obsessed over it. Turned out, I quickly adapted and it was bad at all. I hate a lot of peanuts and string cheese for snacks. I was managing at Pie Five pizza at the time who offers a delicious cauliflower crust pizza and I would eat that for lunch and often dinner. Chicken breast became a common dinner option for me. It was easier than I thought to moderate my blood sugars and actually felt better. Lots of water. I’m sure this is everything you’ve already heard, but coming from the queen of snacks and junk food, I survived!! Hang in there!!

Thank you! And you’re right I did adapt pretty fast. I t wasn’t as bad as I thought. Did you end up having your son early due to the diabetes?

3 meals and 3 snacks sounds like a lot but you eat less at meals... I have never been a fan of the late night snack though and some ideas are nuts and cheese, protein bars, triple zero non fat yogurt. There is another group on here titled ‘gestational diabetes’ too that might help. Good luck!

I agree it’s really not a lot of food now that I’m actually doing it. Thank you for letting me know about the group!
