I would ring him and go in and get checked out bleeding like that at 38 weeks should be checked out

I would call your OB/l&d. I went in at 35 weeks for bleeding heavier than that that stopped within the hour. Looked like day 2 of a period. Baby ended up being totally fine and it was just an irritated cervix. But you should get checked to be safe.
