Sleep training frowned upon

I don't know if it's a new thing or what but I mentioned to my mama-whatsapp group I want to start sleep training and they all jumped at me. How I shouldn't have children if I can't take care for them, I'm damaging my baby by letting it cry for me and how horrible I am for considering it. I mean, all the success rate that a lot of you have it can't be so bad. I feel like a milking cow-paci at night and would prefer for my girl not to come EVERY Hr.

Should I wait maybe by 9 months to start or what?

***Thank you guys for the encouragement, I have joined a couple of FB groups and looking up little Zs. I'm going to give it a go in 2 weeks -8months :-)
